Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz triple sec or orange liqueur like Cointreau
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz prickly pear syrup or juice
  • Ice for shaking and serving
  • Optional: Tajín or salt for rim
  • Garnish: Lime wedge or prickly pear slice

Instructions

  • Rim your glass (optional): Rub a lime wedge around the rim and dip it into Tajín or salt. Set aside.
  • Shake: In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and prickly pear syrup with a handful of ice.
  • Mix: Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
  • Serve: Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Garnish: Top with a lime wedge or slice of prickly pear for a beautiful finish.

Notes

Use mezcal instead of tequila for a smoky variation.
Prickly pear syrup can be store-bought or made from fresh prickly pear puree.
For a frozen margarita, blend all ingredients with 1 cup of ice until smooth.
To make it a mocktail, skip the tequila and triple sec, and add sparkling water instead.
